The Language of Friendship

I woke this morning thankful for the grace of friendship. Recently, I gave up a friendship based on certain assumptions, then something happened and our past dictated it necessary to make contact. After the conversation started that connection was as natural as breathing. When I did the foundation of the friendship transcends the mixed thoughts and bridges the space.

Before the conversation ended I admitted the reason for the non-contact and we both understood the misinterpretations. The bridge was repaired because the bond and the commitment of our friendship. Sometimes in life we need to let go and focus, as too often, we look for perfect people and if they do no measure up we abandon them.

I hope that you do realize that if you too have encountered a similar situation it is not too late. With conscious action we can avoid the phrase “if only I knew.” Today you can make that first step, the writer Carleen Brice says it best in Walk Tall “Hindsight gives us all perfect judgment…it is time to walk with a new and better friend – love”

Stilted comprehension

Sheltered in misty reflections

The humming through veins

Melted wild

Words trailed

Banquet of amusing chirps

Chimes in wind beaten fronds

Downward bent coconut shafts

Feather-like blessings thrill

Peak through crispy green extensions…

Enter stalks of lavender

Cold splash of hypnotic blue eyes

Almond tear drops

Blooms of soft crimson rose

Defiant passion

Sapphire thoughts

Shinning rusty shards

Among milky amber streams

Willed a rising blinding flash

The penetrating silence

As new seagrape leaves

Besotted blind beauty

His promise

Only he who feels it knows it

Photographed by IPS Co

About a month ago I decided to vacation on a sparsely populated Bahamian Cay. It was impossible to go outside because of the buzzing mosquitoes at most hours of the day. The reason for the mosquitoes is that  the environmental officer went on vacation and was not there to spray the Cay. The vacation property where we stayed had no modern day communication system (telephone, cable,  internet). I did not mind because I had planed to maroon myself on the island with books and spend my free time with visits to the untouched waters (beaches).  However after about a day there I was curious to know what was going on in the world; so at six o’clock in the afternoon everyday I would religiously perch myself at the dining table listening to my AM/FM radio with short wave frequency. This was reminiscent of the days when I use to watch my grandparents listening to news via radio.  My friend Stephanie at this point would say ‘poor soul!’ because it was rare for me to listen to national news. On the Cay I could only pick up one English speaking channel and that was ZNS 1540 Bahamas.  My ‘smatterings’ of comprehension of the Spanish language did not permit to me to engage the several Spanish language radio stations that were available. In spite of being hemmed in by the mosquitoes, and the use of the endless supply of OFF (insect repellent) there was an amazing quiet peace. One author once said “the peace that comes from being out of the confusion of getting ahead isn’t a dead peace but very alive” When I first read this quote I saw the beauty of being at peace but this week challenged that thought.

In the Bahamas headline news this week it was highlighted that copper was stolen from a transmitter site and as a result ZNS 1540 is down and may take about a month to be back on the air. Well, at this point I know that you are gasping. My heart is with the residents of that Cay. I can just imagine the residents visiting the few homes that have satellite services just to ‘keep up.’

In life we are blessed with so much and take for granted the simple things. Today I hope you can take time out and be happy for what you have and be thankful for what you about to receive.

The Pause to Create

It is the middle of the week and many are burdened by the maelstrom of every day activities. Some even refer to Wednesdays as “Weary Wednesday.” It is a must that we create and inspire others as well. I encourage you to take a pause/break to be quiet and reflect so you can connect to your spiritual thoughts and be more productive in whatever your goals are today.

In a noisy busy world

A  sensation to escape

The hubbub of digital technology

Coaxed instructions encroach

Passing moments

Eat  into every sphere of our lives

Eyes closed

Seeking still moments

between sound and silence

Stillness flourishes

Like a well rehearsed silence

Relish, re-attune, reconnect

to deep lying emotions

Day dreaming – still moments

A settling inner peace

Stimulates in a piercing world.

Reality

Echoes of The Past

Echoes of the past

Create our reality

An oasis of peace lingers

Languor  transformed

-

Doors, windows swung open

The rush of breeze

Trees rustle soothingly

Barefooted on silky teak floors

Something amazing came

-

Discovery of space

Spontaneous visions

Escaped into

The power of force

Ecstatic

Extraordinary

Mentally sowing seeds

Soporific silence

Mirrored by the ocean

Happy New Year

  1. The Begining of the New Year

    Photographed by Coretta Johnson

It is the advent of a New Year and a new Decade. Today we treasure and celebrate new beginnings, last year’s victories and draw our life’s inspiration from hope. It is a time to reflect, release and renew as this is our time to refresh our spirits and stimulate our minds.

Celebrate

Soar and the world sees you

Sing and men will hear you

Rise and your followers are many

Dream and there will be plenty

The eve of my Birthday!

Holy Cross Parish - Nassau - Stained Glass

It is the eve of my birthday and I feel compelled to pen my thoughts. As my two year old daughter sometimes asks “Mommy are you happy?”

I have a desire to wake up at the crack of dawn go to the Parish church of Holy Cross and worship. I want to watch the sun beaming on the stain class window revealing the glowing image of the risen Christ with his hand out stretched. I marvel at this beautiful scene that now plays in my mind!

Tomorrow before the sun sets I have a compulsion to take a yacht preferable a Sunseeker (50ft long motor yacht) or even a 108 foot Catamaran (style motor yacht) and observe the setting of the sun. I feel worthy of all the wonderful things life has to offer. For the rest of my life on earth I deserve prosperity, understanding, peace, love and success.

Today I have been given a fresh start as I am not tied to what was but instead I become whatever I chose to be. Further, today I honour the gifts my people/ancestors have given me as I celebrate my beauty and the beauty of my culture with gratitude and love.

Today I acknowledge that my peace comes from being able to forgive.

I am happy as I celebrate my new beginnings!
