Mind Thoughts

Each week as I drive along West Bay Street in the morning I am always in time to observe the Disney Cruise Line make a one hundred and eighty degree turn in the waters to sail out of Port Nassau. This always inspires certain awe. This morning again, I witness that same turn as this time it reversed into Port Nassau. I can not explain why it evokes such a feeling.  My husband tells me that anything that large when it moves is always a sight to behold. Maybe in my subconscious it is a metaphor for when someone makes a turn or a turn around in life? A turn around can be one of the most exhilarating and enriching feelings in life. For some, that turn can be the sign of better things to come.

Mother – A Rock

Mother’s day is bitter sweet for some as there is a melancholy because of the loss of her. It is an overwhelming experience for some because our children did not get to cherish her as a grandmother. What we owe to them is incalculable.

Like diamonds on sunlit oceans

They gave themselves

Contemplative wisdom

Boundaries of rigidity

Infinite in circumstances

-

Uncircumscribable  richness

Details manifest in reflections

Intuitive mystery understood

Expression of carefree joy

-

Her eyes the gravitas of life

Melting of emotions

With the iron force of her will

She defines provision and selflessness

-

An armor on her principles

Her vision stood only in black and white

Now -lasting impressions colored

Her spirit, her attitude inculcated

The Grace of Interruption

Photographed by Brenda L. McCartney

It is the end of Easter holiday, thousands of Bahamians and Bahamians residents are returning relaxed and enthused from spending their holiday abroad and in particular the family of Islands. The domestic airport attendants are very busy. The conveyor belts are working overtime with suitcases, ice boxes of fish and conch harvested from the waters of The Bahamas. The long term parking lots revenue has sky rocketed. There are flashes of million dollar smiles from passersby. The hot cross buns have all been eaten, the mini regattas wined down. Some have spent time in reflective moments on endless spaces of white sandy beaches. Others strolled onto shallow banks of the oceans for miles while some enjoyed beach picnics of fun and frolic. For many children the Easter baskets had their favorite treats. Easter weekend was a weekend underpinned by sharing, encouraging and sacrificing where our thoughts, deeds and words were mostly motivated by love. I hope that this refreshing pause helps us to become focused and energizing.

Time to Think

Have your ever received a command from someone that you had to do but for some reason you dreaded doing it?  I have learned recently that anything (task, assignment) can be a joy. It is your frame of mind that is most important. As a friend once told me when you get up in the morning you decide if your day will be gloomy or a gift.

The poem was written one morning when my daughter insisted that I take her to beach before the sunrise.

For the first time you walk unafraid

On oceans sandy bed

As birds strum air- I’m amazed

Not pedantic nor impulsive … photographed instead

-

Water shallow – banks serrated

Tricked, you toddle without fear

Kicking with delight – apprehension abated

Sunny skies reflect chicken wire near

-

Mirrored in its body crystal clear

Underwater sand bright white

Sand and sea salty air

Sand trees and daybreak light

-

Dress – a rainbow color outfit

Skipped on shore – clambers an abandoned boat plays

Mother in awe squatting pensive sits

Swap – She plays catch me with the waves

-

Mommy gasps with surprise.

Uninhibited she undresses – ocean splashing colder sprays

Beckons her mamma do like wise

We revel in dance to stretch amusing days

-

Meandering lass unaware of how deep

Prostrate she deliberately swallows water

Portrait of confidence leap

See myself in my daughter

-

Boat climbing

Sand Castle building

Water Skipping

Sand throwing

-

Intermittent strolls of reflection

She waddles further into its grasp

With an assertion of protection

Like flag pole her hands mine clasp

-

She stands as guide

Nearby plop – plop was the sound

A natural quickness preside

Stingrays in deeper water surround

-

Lure away from time

Water thrills, swash and babbles

Moments framed by sunshine

With a childish optimism – time cuddles

-

The Casuarina trees whistle goodbye

The birds alike congregate

Thoughts ablaze with sweet reply

Impositions of rigor will wait
