Love After Love

-

The time will come

when, with elation

you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror

and each will smile at the other’s welcome,

and say, sit here.

Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine.

Give bread.

Give back your heart

to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored

for another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit.

Feast on your life

.

Dignified

Photographed by the Associated Press

The events that unfold yesterday in The United Kingdom can not escape my blog posts and have left an indelible print as the word dignity is etched in my mind. I am still taken aback about the dignified manner in which Gordon Brown the former British Prime Minister left number 10 Downing Street yesterday.  These days we are bombarded by Leaders refusing to step down or refusing to accept the fact that they have lost in the polls or it is time to retire. Yes the constitution in Westminster may have dictated his actions or his impudent bid for power may have failed, nonetheless he faced his challenges and he conceded. The people have spoken, he listened and he did not stand on his dignity, he left. If someone says that you are a person of dignity it speaks volumes to your character. I hope we all can learn from his example no matter our situation. I wish him well!

The Grace of Interruption

Photographed by Brenda L. McCartney

It is the end of Easter holiday, thousands of Bahamians and Bahamians residents are returning relaxed and enthused from spending their holiday abroad and in particular the family of Islands. The domestic airport attendants are very busy. The conveyor belts are working overtime with suitcases, ice boxes of fish and conch harvested from the waters of The Bahamas. The long term parking lots revenue has sky rocketed. There are flashes of million dollar smiles from passersby. The hot cross buns have all been eaten, the mini regattas wined down. Some have spent time in reflective moments on endless spaces of white sandy beaches. Others strolled onto shallow banks of the oceans for miles while some enjoyed beach picnics of fun and frolic. For many children the Easter baskets had their favorite treats. Easter weekend was a weekend underpinned by sharing, encouraging and sacrificing where our thoughts, deeds and words were mostly motivated by love. I hope that this refreshing pause helps us to become focused and energizing.

Intention Attracts

Photographed taken from Borders Website

On the weekend I promised my daughter that I was going to take her on the Cruise Ship on Friday afternoon. As the afternoon approached my energy was drained and I prayed that she fell asleep before I could take her. For each secret thought of mine her opened rebuttal was ‘mama I am going on the Cruise Ship.’ Of course I did not want to disappoint her. I tried to bargain with her and told her that we will go the next day; she insisted ‘no Mama we should go at four o’clock.’

We aboard the Logos Hope- Book Ship went up the ramp and sat through a presentation. When we entered the store, behold, displayed in front of me was the book “I Love You More Than Rainbows,” do you remember that post? I was captivated; the energy surrounding us almost rocked the book off the shelf into my hands.  When I first heard about the book I searched all of the local bookstores and it was not available. I went to Amazon and put it on my wish list. So on Friday, when I held it in my hand my daughter said “Mama remember it on the computer?”

Isn’t the power of intention a potent phenomenon?  I hope that the things you have on your wish list and the obstacles that may litter your path are driving forces to make the good things on your list a reality.
